چکیده
Haemogram and biochemical tests were normal. Chest radiograph (postero-anterior view) showed shift of the mediastinum to the left with multiple cavities on the same side and contra-lateral compensatory hyperinflation (Figure 1). Sputum smears were negative for acid-fast bacilli on two occasions. High resolution computed tomography (HRCT) (Figure 2) showed mediastinal shift to the left and elevation of the left hemidiaphragm suggestive of volume loss in the left hemithorax. Multiple thin-walled, air-filled cavities of varying sizes were seen almost completely replacing the parenchyma of both lobes of the left lung, some

Congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation (CCAM) is a rare congenital abnormality. Symptomatic presentation in adult life is extremely uncommon. The usual radiological appearance of CCAM is a cystic space-occupying lesion. Patients with underlying cystic lung disease can develop in-flight complications because of pressure-volume changes during ascent. We report the first ever case in which spo...
متن کاملClinical, radiographic and lung function features of diffuse congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation of the lung in an adult.
Congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation of the bronchi with bilateral lung involvement has only previously been reported in one possible adult case. This report describes a young man with bilateral diffuse lung involvement, characteristic histological features, and a mixed restrictive/obstructive lung function pattern.
متن کاملAdult-Onset Congenital Cystic Adenomatoid Malformation in Combination with Intralobar Bronchopulmonary Sequestration: a case report
Congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation (CCAM) and bronchopulmonary sequestration are congenital lung lesions. They are classified as separate entities. Each of them has distinct embryology, pathology, and natural history. However there are some commonalities between them. CCAM may have a pulmonary artery supply, or be supplied like a sequestration from the aorta, and histological features o...

متن کاملCongenital Cystic Adenomatoid Malformation, Type II: A Rare Cause of Haemoptysis.
Congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation (CCAM) occurs secondary to the cystic adenomatous over-growth of terminal bronchioles, which results in the secondary inhibition of alveolar growth. In most of the cases, respiratory distress is the presenting feature during the neonatal period. In about 90% of patients, recurrent respiratory infections necessitating chest imaging reveal CCAM before th...
